The Little Puffs class is a course designed to teach kids 6 to 8 years old how to sail a small boat. In this class the students will be sailing a boat called a Sabot, which is an 8 foot dinghy, around Mission Bay. The class teaches the fundamentals of sailing, including parts and terminology, how to trim sails, and driving the boat. Often times the students will double up in a boat in order to feel comfortable and ease the responsibility aspect of sailing. This is a great class for first time sailors and students that are interested in racing at a young age.
The Beginning Sabots class is a course designed for kids that are between the ages of 8-12 and are first time or former summer sailors. This class is focused on fun and learning and is intended to introduce the kids to racing at the end of the course.
This class is designed for students interested in learning the basic and intermediate techniques of sailing a Laser. This boat is the perfect transition from smaller Sabot to the much bigger Laser. The ideal age is 12 and about 130lbs with a little bit of previous sailing experience. In this class we will instruct the students on all the basics of the boat as well as boat handling, rigging, and an introduction to racing. The MBYC Junior’s have a limited amount of charter Lasers available, so having your own boat is recommended.
The Beginning Sabot Racing course is designed for students that have sailed and feel comfortable in a Sabot. They will learn how to sail around a course and learn about how to tack and jibe correctly, as well as learn more about the wind and how it shifts. This is a great course for all kids that have an interest in racing.
This class is for our Race Team members. Each we will be preparing for umcoming events. In this class students will learn the technical aspects of sailing along with doing video work. There will be classroom talks about strategy and mechanics prior to going on the water every day.
This class will be focused on improving double-handed skills for all levels. Sailors will also focus on upcoming events and sail the corresponding boats to the event. This is also a great class for future high school sailors.
We have a limited amount of club sabots and Lasers available for after school sailing. Please select an option below:
